What is a team health check?
A team health check is a short, recurring survey where everyone on the team rates the same set of dimensions, such as delivery, ways of working or psychological safety, and then discusses the results together. The score is not the point. The conversation it starts, and the actions the team commits to afterwards, are.
How is a team health check different from a retrospective?
A retrospective looks back at one sprint and asks what to change next. A health check rates the same dimensions on the same scale every cycle, so you get a trend rather than a snapshot. Most teams run both, and in TeamRetro they share one action list, so what a health check surfaces carries into the next retro with an owner and a due date.
How is a team health check different from an employee engagement survey?
An engagement survey is usually run once or twice a year by HR, across the whole organization, and reports upward. A health check belongs to the team: it runs on the team's own cadence, the team sees its own results in the same session, and the team decides what to do about them. TeamRetro is built for the second, which is why results arrive as a radar to discuss rather than a report someone else reads.
Are team health check responses anonymous?
They can be. Each health check runs fully anonymous, with aliases, or with names shown, and individual comments carry their own anonymity toggle. Ratings stay private until the survey closes, so the first answer does not anchor everyone else.
How often should a team run a health check?
Quarterly suits most teams, or every two to three sprints for a faster-moving one. That is often enough that a dip shows up while you can still act on it, and far enough apart that people are not re-rating the same dimensions from memory.
