What is the No-Shave Movember Retrospective?
Movember asks people to grow a mustache through November to raise money and awareness for men's health, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. No-Shave November is a similar campaign: participants skip shaving for the month and donate what they'd normally spend on grooming. This retrospective brings both into a team session, so you can reflect on the month and have a real conversation about health, fundraising and how your team supports each other. The board uses a growth metaphor with three columns. What grew well? celebrates what flourished during the campaign, from the laughs to the money raised. What got patchy? covers where things felt uneven or fell short. Impact & conversations asks what awareness or change the campaign sparked. Run it as a standalone team session or as the wrap-up to a charity drive, while the month is still fresh. In TeamRetro, remote and in-office colleagues contribute on equal terms, group similar ideas, vote on what matters most and turn good intentions into action items. You finish with a plan for next year's campaign and for keeping men's health on the agenda after November. Learn more about the cause on the Movember Foundation site.
No-Shave Movember retrospective format
What grew well?
What flourished during the Movember campaign?
Use this column to celebrate the month's highlights, from impressive mustaches to fundraising milestones and meaningful conversations. Ask for the fun moments and the real wins so the team starts on a positive note. Remind people that contributions don't have to involve facial hair. Supporting the cause counts too.
What got patchy?
Where did things feel uneven or fall short?
Treat this as a constructive, blame-free look at where the campaign lost momentum or where communication and participation could improve. Patchy is a playful nod to uneven beard growth, so keep the tone light while still capturing real gaps. Ask for specifics so ideas can become actions later.
Impact & conversations
What awareness or change did the campaign spark?
Use this column to reflect on the purpose behind the fun: raising awareness of men's health and starting conversations that matter. Ask people what they learned, who they reached and which moments stayed with them. This keeps the cause at the center of the retrospective and shows why the effort was worth it.

Ideas and tips for your retrospective meeting
- Keep the tone light and inclusive. Not everyone can or wants to grow a mustache, so welcome other ways to take part.
- Share a few facts about Movember and men's health at the start so the session stays connected to its purpose.
- Use anonymous contributions in TeamRetro so people can share personal reflections on their health safely.
- Celebrate the wins, and be honest about the patchy spots so next year's campaign improves.
- Turn the top-voted ideas into action items with owners so good intentions don't fade once the mustaches come off.
- Be sensitive to the topic. Men's health includes serious subjects like mental health, so give people room and point them to support resources.
