TeamRetro is a more connected RetroTool alternative for agile retrospectives and team health checks. Where RetroTool has no integrations, health checks or SOC 2, TeamRetro adds Jira, Slack and Teams integrations, health-check models, AI grouping and SOC 2 Type 2 security.

Teams usually start with RetroTool because it’s a free, no-login board — quick to spin up for a one-off session. The friction shows up later, when a retro tool has to do more than host a single meeting. RetroTool has no recurring or scheduled retros, no health checks, and no presentation mode, so as retrospectives become a regular habit the manual work piles up.

A free, no-login board hides its real cost: when a retro is a throwaway URL, the actions from it are too — orphaned the moment the board is closed, with no continuity from one sprint to the next. Moving to TeamRetro trades that hidden cost for a place where retros and their actions persist. There’s nothing to migrate — you start your next retro from one of 200+ templates, invite the team with a link, and carry open actions forward so nothing falls off the radar. Pricing is per team, from $25 with unlimited members and no per-seat fees, with SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR compliance on every plan.

RetroTool suits a small or ad-hoc team that wants a free retro tool for the occasional session with no setup. TeamRetro is the better fit if retrospectives are a recurring ritual you want structured, measured and actioned — across sprints, and across teams.

Frequently asked questions

What is RetroTool?
RetroTool is a free-to-use, public retrospective online tool that allows you to quickly create a board, add ideas to sticky notes and then share the ideas with the team. It has a free plan with limited features and only allows public boards. Paid plans allow you to have up to 3 or more teams and to add backgrounds to your retrospectives. RetroTool is a one-page retro tool which means it does not have a facilitated workflow function. Instead, you can ask everyone if they are ready to move on to the next step. RetroTool is best used for simple, public retrospectives with basic functionality. On the other hand, TeamRetro is an enterprise-ready tool specifically built for agile retrospectives and health checks that improves meeting value, safety, and actionable outcomes. You can get insights for improvement and it has an easy-to-use and reliable interface that allows retrospectives to run smoothly. Beyond simple brainstorming, TeamRetro also captures data such as team sentiment, action item tracking, team health as well as other common agile metrics. The best thing about TeamRetro is that it is simple for people to use.
How much does RetroTool cost?
Free tier with one retro board and a 3-month trial. Paid accounts start at $10 per month per team and Premium accounts, priced at $20 a month, provide unlimited retro boards and higher levels of support. Meanwhile, RetroTool's alternative – TeamRetro starts at $25 for a single team plan with unlimited members, dropping down to $15 per team based on annual volume discounts. Enterprise-grade security applies at all plan levels and moving to an enterprise plan also provides insights into team sentiment, key agile metrics and overall team health tracked over a period of time.
Does RetroTool provide health checks, survey and meeting metrics?
No. RetroTool is useful for simple retrospective and ad hoc retrospectives only.
Can I vote on ideas in RetroTool?
You can vote on a card in RetroTool. Each card has small plus and minus signs: when you click them you either add or subtract a point. That's how you put your vote on a card. Secret voting is only available on paid plans. Voting functionality as well as its flexible settings are a standard feature of all TeamRetro's plans, including its free trial.
How do I add a card to RetroTool?
In RetroTool each participant has their own Private Section in every column – it is their working space where only they can see what they wrote. It's also up to them to decide what they will drag to the Public Section above. To create a card you just write on the empty one in a Private Section and press Enter to save.
Is RetroTool safe to use?
RetroTool is not SOC 2 or GDPR compliant. Personal data of all persons using RetroTool (including IP addresses or other identifiers and information collected via cookies or similar technologies) is processed by u2i. u2i has implemented reasonable security mechanisms to protect personal data maintained on servers from loss, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction. However, u2i cannot guarantee the security of your information and cannot be held responsible for unauthorized access to retrospectives. TeamRetro on the other hand is SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR compliant and can be hosted in either the US or the EU on Amazon Web Services. Read more about TeamRetro's security and GDPR statement.
Who created RetroTool?
RetroTool is created by u2i which is a software development house based in Poland and New York that specializes in building custom software solutions for businesses. TeamRetro on the other hand is created by GroupMap Technology Pty Ltd whose key focus is on collaboration and group decision making software application platforms.
