What is Retrospected?
Retrospected is an open-source tool for running simple retrospectives. It provides simple retrospective boards that are public on a free plan but can be encrypted or made private on a paid plan. On the other hand, TeamRetro is an enterprise-ready agile retrospective and health check tool that improves meeting value, safety, and actionable outcomes. It offers insights for improvement and has an easy-to-use and reliable interface that allows retrospectives to run smoothly.
Is Retrospected free?
Retrospected has a free plan with limited functionality. For example you can't have more than 40 posts or ideas and the data is not encrypted. If you wish to upgrade, their next plan is at $12.90 per month for 20 users and $49.95 for unlimited users. Meanwhile, Retrospected's alternative – TeamRetro, is free for 30 days. Is Retrospected open source?
Yes. Antoine Jaussoin created the tool and the source is on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. GPL-3.0 is a copyleft license: you can use, modify and redistribute the code, but anything you distribute built from it has to stay under the same license. You can also self-host it yourself with Docker, docker-compose or Kubernetes, or buy the $599 one-off self-hosted license.
Is it safe to use Retrospected?
It publishes no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 audit of its own, which is normal for a small open-source project rather than a mark against it. What it does offer is stronger than ours in one respect: full client-side encryption and private sessions on the Pro plan, so the server never sees the content. You have to select an encrypted session when you create the retro, it is not the default, and the free plan is unencrypted. If you self-host, the security posture is whatever your own infrastructure gives you. TeamRetro is SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR compliant and can be hosted in either the US or the EU on Amazon Web Services. Who created Retrospected?
Antoine Jaussoin, a software developer and Scrum Master, created Retrospected. Jaussoin created the tool out of a passion for agile methodology and saw the need for an affordable and customizable online tool to help Agile teams conduct retrospective meetings more efficiently. Retrospected's GitHub repository dates back to 2016, and Antoine Jaussoin still maintains and develops the software as an open-source project on GitHub.

Yes, retrospective data can be migrated to TeamRetro, and the move is light.
