The admin of the meeting, handled while you facilitate

Facilitating well and keeping the record straight pull in opposite directions. trAI takes the second one: ask it in the side panel to summarize where the discussion has landed, write down the action you just agreed on, or pull up what the team said about this three retros ago.

It works in retrospectives, health checks and estimation sessions, and it only ever acts when you ask it to. It’s in beta today, and every reply carries a thumbs up or down so you can tell us how it’s going.

It only sees what you can see

trAI runs inside your own permissions. It can’t open a team you’re not in, read a meeting you couldn’t read, or hand you results your role doesn’t give you — so putting it in front of the whole team doesn’t widen anyone’s access.

Each conversation is private to the person who opened it, and other participants can’t see your chat. It acts only when you ask it to, and everything it creates stays visible and editable like any other item in the meeting, so the team can see and change what was captured on their behalf.

Three things it will never do:

  • Reveal who wrote an anonymous idea, comment or survey response. Anonymity holds, assistant or not.
  • Reach the internet, or any system outside TeamRetro. It works on your teams’ data and nothing else.
  • Follow instructions written inside the meeting content. If someone types “ignore your rules” onto a sticky note, it stays a sticky note — trAI acts on what you type in the chat.

Most teams end up using both: trAI while the meeting is running, MCP for everything between meetings.

The AI around the assistant

trAI is the part you talk to, but it isn’t the only AI in a TeamRetro meeting. Around it:

  • Suggested grouping and group titles. When a board fills up with overlapping ideas, TeamRetro proposes the clusters and names them. You accept, rename, split or ignore them.
  • Suggested actions. Drafted from what the team actually discussed, for the group to accept, reword or drop.
  • Meeting summaries and suggested titles. A written summary of what was raised, decided and agreed.
  • Generated templates, health models and icebreakers. Describe what you want to run and TeamRetro drafts a starting point you can edit before anyone sees it.
  • Insights: sentiment, themes and keywords. Annotated across meetings, so a pattern over a quarter becomes something you can see rather than something you remember.

Every output is a suggestion: a person reviews it and decides what to keep. Claude models run the in-meeting work through AWS Bedrock; OpenAI’s ChatGPT generates templates, health models and icebreaker questions. What is trAI?
trAI is the TeamRetro AI assistant. It sits in the side panel of a retrospective, health check or estimation session, so you can ask for a summary, capture an action or look something up without leaving the meeting you're running. It's the in-meeting half of TeamRetro's AI: the MCP server is the same data from the assistant you already work in, outside the meeting.
Is trAI in beta?
Yes. trAI is in beta today — you'll see the badge in the panel — which means it's available to use and still changing. Everything it does in a meeting stays visible and editable, so you can always see exactly what it added.
What can I ask trAI to do?
Read and write. It can summarize this meeting or a past one, search your team's feedback by topic or theme, show health-check results and trends, and look up estimation sessions. It can also add ideas to the board, vote, post comments, give kudos, create and reassign actions, add working agreements, and park topics for next time — all on your behalf.
Can trAI see things I'm not allowed to see?
No. trAI acts as you, with exactly your permissions — it can never see or change anything you couldn't see or change yourself. It also can't reveal who wrote an anonymous idea, comment or survey response, can't reach the internet or any system outside TeamRetro, and won't follow instructions written inside meeting content: it acts on what you type in the chat. Each conversation is private to you — other participants can't see your chat — and anything it creates stays visible and editable like any other item in the meeting.
Who can turn trAI on or off?
trAI is on by default on trial and paid plans. On Enterprise accounts it is off by default, so your organization can review it before rolling it out. Account owners and admins hold that switch under Settings → AI & Features → AI Assistant. Team administrators choose which roles may use it under Team Settings → Roles & Permissions → Use the AI assistant; team members are allowed by default, and guests can't use trAI. What happens to our data?
Your meeting content is processed briefly to answer you and is never stored by the model or used to train it. trAI runs on Claude Sonnet via AWS Bedrock. We don't build or train models ourselves — the detail is on responsible AI.
How is trAI different from the MCP server?
Where you are when you ask. trAI is inside the meeting, in the side panel, for the person facilitating right now. The MCP server connects Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini to TeamRetro so you can ask about your teams from the assistant you already work in, between meetings. Many teams use both.
