We are honoured to introduce Dan Evans, VP of Technology who leads the PCW-Tech organisation, overseeing critical technology functions that include customer journeys, partner integration, renewals, and strategic initiatives. Passionate about building high-performing teams and delivering resilient, scalable technology, Dan focuses on aligning engineering outcomes with business value while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

The Challenge: Aligning retrospectives across growing teams

As Go.Compare’s engineering teams scaled, so did the complexity of managing agile ceremonies across squads. In a growing, innovative organisation it was still important to provide direction and leadership when leading agile processes around continuous improvement.

Dan shares, Our teams were growing in size and complexity, with multiple squads working across interconnected journeys. Retrospectives were inconsistent across teams, with variable depth of insight and a lack of standardisation. We needed a structured, engaging way to capture feedback, drive actionable improvements, and ensure alignment across squads.

Choosing TeamRetro to support scalable agile practices

Faced with the need for a more unified and effective approach, Dan and his team evaluated several tools before selecting TeamRetro.
We evaluated a range of tools, but TeamRetro stood out for its balance of structure, flexibility, and ease of use. It enabled distributed teams to collaborate effectively, supported multiple templates and health checks, and gave us a single consistent platform to embed a culture of continuous improvement.

The Process: Regular retros and monthly health checks

Go.Compare uses TeamRetro to run agile ceremonies that are both scalable and actionable. Empowering teams to be disciplined in their practices while making it straight forward, easy and interactive meant that everyone could participate in the meetings.

“We run regular retrospectives and monthly health checks at both the squad and organisational level”, Dan says.

“TeamRetro provides templates we can adapt, anonymous input to encourage candour, and reporting to track themes over time. It supports a cycle of reflection, prioritisation, and follow-up, helping us close the loop on improvements.”

The Outcomes: Consistency, visibility, and psychological safety

By adopting TeamRetro across squads, Go.Compare achieved several measurable improvements. Dan shares some of the key benefits he has seen with his team as well as individual people in the organization.

  • Improved consistency and quality of retrospectives across squads.
  • Clearer visibility of recurring themes (e.g., tooling, deployment, cross-squad alignment).
  • Increased psychological safety, with more honest feedback from team members.
  • Actionable insights that feed into our engineering OKRs and performance measures.

The transition to TeamRetro didn’t just benefit leadership—it positively impacted the entire team experience. This can only lend itself to boosted productivity and improved return on time invested in meetings.

“Easier participation, especially for quieter voices in the team. A more engaging format compared to traditional retrospective boards. Confidence that feedback would be seen, tracked, and acted upon.”

Team feedback and broader organisational impact

The reception from both teams and stakeholders has been overwhelmingly positive. “Teams have highlighted that retrospectives feel more valuable, structured, and productive. I appreciate the ability to surface organisational themes and to see how actions are being followed through.

And what does TeamRetro mean to Go.Compare as a whole? – Dan summarizes

“For me, it has been a key enabler in building a culture of continuous improvement. For teams, it means their voices are heard and acted upon. It provides assurance that teams are reflecting, adapting, and continuously improving against delivery and quality goals.”

Advice to agile leaders and Scrum Masters

Dan shares three hot tips to help transform culture and build team spirit.

  1. Make retrospectives part of your cultural rhythm, not just a process.
  2. Use health checks to get ahead of issues.
  3. Most importantly, ensure that insights lead to visible action.Teams need to see that their feedback creates change. We integrated Retro actions into ADO so they become items on the backlog that the team can address.

We’d like to thank Dan for his contributions here and for sharing his experiences from his team and leadership.
