If an impasse is reached, it\u2019s possible things are talked through until a consensus is reached.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s possible you know it\u2019s time to wrap up when you see people heading for lunch, or hear a knock on the meeting room door.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Clearly, while the above may work for those of the team based in the office, the same cannot be said for those working remotely; the above obviously needs to be translated into a virtual space. While this may require some investment, an environment that supports both co-located and remote participants equally, is a valuable risk mitigation treatment on many levels.<\/p>\n<h3>Choose your online retrospective tool<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamretro.com\/retrospectives\/\">Online retrospective tools<\/a> have been developed with both remote and co-located teams in mind, and offer an organized process for running a retrospective.<\/p>\n<p>There are a myriad of tools but overall they should be designed to &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>make facilitation easy<\/li>\n<li>secure, fast and reliable<\/li>\n<li>address common retrospective anti-patterns<\/li>\n<li>shape a safe, equitable space<\/li>\n<li>easily capture inputs from all participants<\/li>\n<li>record and track action items<\/li>\n<li>gauge meeting effectiveness<\/li>\n<li>present ideas one by one to ensure everyone is focused<\/li>\n<li>augments with your video conferencing tool<\/li>\n<li>Integrate action items into your workflow<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Choose your communication tool<\/h3>\n<p>Will you be using video conferencing, teleconferencing, or will you be relying on VoIP?<\/p>\n<p>The mechanism your team uses to complement your online retrospective tool will inform the facilitation techniques used to support the retrospective process itself.<\/p>\n<p>Por ejemplo, utilizamos videoconferencias y un sistema de mensajer\u00eda interna como Zoom y Slack para dar soporte a nuestras retrospectivas en l\u00ednea en tiempo real.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our screens are on and microphones are unmuted (this means that our facilitator can see we are engaged).<\/li>\n<li>From time to time, links to documents and other files are shared on a dedicated and secure messaging channel.<\/li>\n<li>The scrum master may share their screen throughout the retrospective as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Consider a dry run<\/h3>\n<p>Llevar a cabo retrospectivas con un equipo remoto es muy dif\u00edcil de hacer sobre la marcha; sin la comodidad de la coubicaci\u00f3n, puede resultar complicado comunicar decisiones de \u00faltima hora, delegar el rol de Scrum Master, cambiar horarios, etc. These things are also incredibly frustrating and isolating for the team.<\/p>\n<p>The importance of planning and following through cannot be understated. While some discipline may be needed to deliver this, the return (saved time, focused retrospective, team alignment) will be worth it.<\/p>\n<p>In order to ensure the virtual space is suitable to facilitate retrospectives, it\u2019s helpful to ensure &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>all participants know how to use the technology, so a dry run helps.<\/li>\n<li>the technology works, so home VPNs and low connectivity can be addressed beforehand.<\/li>\n<li>there is an easy and agreed process for people to follow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The simplest way to achieve this is to rehearse or walk through a retrospective. This aligns to building the team culture and how people interact with each other. Things such as \u201cwe won\u2019t multitask\u201d (which is always tempting to do during internal virtual meetings), or \u201calways laugh at jokes, even the bad ones&#8221; could be included. The agreement isn\u2019t written in stone, and can be updated at any time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Choose a template<\/strong> that will support the needs of your retrospective and team. This will ensure no one will feel they are being ambushed during the retrospective itself.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-6\"><h2><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Step 2 &#8211; Run the retrospective (Collect Data)<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-7\"><p><strong>Warm up with an <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamretro.com\/es\/herramienta-rompehielos\/\"><strong>icebreaker<\/strong><\/a>, a simple activity, undertaking, or game that helps people foster connections and build rapport.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><strong>Then kick off with an overview <\/strong>of the retrospective to ensure everyone is on the same page. This can include quickly running through the team agreement and the process steps that make up the retrospective.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><strong>Keep an eye on the time<\/strong>, this means staring on time and keeping an eye on the clock. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamretro.com\/timeboxing-for-scrum-teams-and-successful-retrospectives\/\">Timeboxing<\/a> is a great way to do this.<\/p>\n<p><b>Maximize<\/b><strong> engagement <\/strong>throughout the retrospective with &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>permission-based progression (questions such as \u2018is everyone happy to move on?\u2019, \u2018can we head to the next step?\u2019)<\/li>\n<li>requesting clarification of ideas and responses<\/li>\n<li>checking in with quieter participants<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><strong>Leverage the online retrospective tool<\/strong> to support the process and don\u2019t be afraid to go back a step.
